Make Plans to Vote in the 2026 General Primary Election

April 28, 2026

As Georgia prepares for another important election cycle, voters across the state will soon head to the polls for the upcoming 2026 General Primary Election. This election will determine party nominees for a wide range of federal, state, and local offices, including U.S. Senator and Georgia Governor, making it a critical opportunity for voters to have a voice in shaping our state’s future leadership.

At the local level, the Atlanta REALTORS® PAC is proud to support candidates who understand the importance of housing, property rights, and a strong real estate market, including Robb Pitts for Fulton County Commission Chairman and Bridget Thorne for District 1 Commissioner. Their leadership and commitment to balanced growth and thoughtful policy decisions are essential to maintaining a healthy and vibrant real estate environment across Fulton County.

Whether you choose to vote early, by absentee ballot, or on Election Day, planning ensures a smooth voting experience. Voters are encouraged to identify their preferred voting method in advance, confirm their registration status, their polling site, and find early voting locations. If voters are interested in reviewing their sample ballot, they should contact their local elections office.

Key Election Dates

Early Voting: Georgia offers several weeks of early, in-person voting—commonly referred to as “advance voting”—to provide flexibility for voters.

  • Early voting began: April 27, 2026

  • Early voting ends: May 15, 2026

During this period, voters can cast their ballots at designated locations within their county, often with expanded weekday and limited weekend hours.

Absentee Voting by Mail: Georgia also provides no-excuse absentee voting, meaning any registered voter can request a mail-in ballot.

Key absentee ballot dates for the 2026 primary include:

  • Absentee ballot request window: March 2 – May 8, 2026

  • Ballot return deadline: Must be received by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day (May 19, 2026)

Completed absentee ballots can typically be returned by mail or dropped off at secure locations, including drop boxes available during early voting hours. Check your local elections office for specific locations.

In-person voting: The Georgia Primary Election will take place on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and voters must cast their ballot at their assigned polling location.
