ARA Celebrates National Fair Housing Month

April 27, 2023

April is National Fair Housing Month, a time when the real estate industry comes together to celebrate the Fair Housing Act and ensure that homeownership continues to be a guaranteed right for all. This month-long celebration is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of fair housing and the role that real estate professionals play in promoting equal access to housing.

At the Atlanta REALTORS Association and Capitus Learning Center, we are committed to promoting fair housing and providing our members with the education and resources they need to uphold these important principles. To celebrate Fair Housing Month, there are several resources that agents can visit to learn more about the history of fair housing and how to promote equal access to housing.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is celebrating the rich history of the Fair Housing Act by declaring April’s theme to be Fair Housing: More Than Just Words. HUD has launched a webcast that features a stimulating table talk conversation and showcases the efforts HUD will make during April to continue the fight against discrimination.

Additionally, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) has launched Fairhaven.realtor, an innovative online simulation training, where agents work against the clock to sell homes in the fictional town of Fairhaven, while confronting discrimination in the homebuying process. During the training, learners also walk in the shoes of a homebuyer facing discrimination. NAR’s Fair Housing Action Plan emphasizes accountability, culture change, and training in order to ensure America’s 1.5 million REALTORS® are doing everything possible to protect housing rights in America.

RealMLS is committed to providing all people equal access to real property. NAR members, all markets, and all neighborhoods are impacted by fair housing. To help promote fair housing, agents can download a poster provided by the U.S. Department of Housing. By taking advantage of these resources, agents can renew their commitment to promoting equal access to housing for all and help to build thriving, inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to achieve their dreams of homeownership.
